14.05.-18.05.2025, Kiel: 9th International Marine Film Festival CINEMARE

CINEMARE is Northern Europe's largest marine film festival. It brings the ocean to the screen and is an ambassador for marine conservation.

GEOMAR is also participating this year with several films:

On Wednesday, 14 May 2025, Professor Dr Katja Matthes, Director of the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research, will take part in the "Kieler Meeresgespräch" as part of the opening ceremony at the Metro Kino. Afterwards, the award-winning film "Wunderwelt Seegraswiesen - Klimaretter, Kinderstube, Küstenschutz" by Florian Guthknecht will be shown.

On Thursday, 15 May 2025, Prof. Dr. Sylvia Sander will take part in a panel discussion at 8:15 p.m. as part of the theme evening "Heroines of the Seas" in the Traumkino.

On Saturday, 17 May, two films about GEOMAR expeditions will be shown:

At 5 p.m., "Exploring the Secrets of the Deep Ocean" about the MSM126 Jellyweb Madeira expedition by Jan Dierking and Henk-Jan Hoving will be shown in the open air at the sailing camp on the Kiellinie.

At 8 p.m., "Expedition to the South Pole" about Dr. Marcus Gutjahr's trip to Antarctica on the POLARSTERN will be shown at the Metro Kino in the Schlosshof. There will also be live film music. This will be followed by a panel discussion (Marcus Gutjahr, GEOMAR; Lester Lembke-Jene, AWI; Jacob Fellner, University of Cologne and Marrit Jacob, AWI).
